What if Georgia has a bunch of players declare for the draft and sit out the bowl game? What if Florida State finds a way to win without that happening? If they do and Alabama beats Michigan and Washington to win the playoffs, Florida State has the better case to be national champion. They would be the only undefeated team left and Alabama wouldn't have avenged its one defeat.

A couple of Olds that I'm around already have thrown out the "There should be just FOUR bowls that mean something!"

They also "know" that ESPN dictates the games and CFP based on money and that "everybody" is cheating except for their team.

For all the teeth gnashing about Florida State's offense in the ACC championship, it got more yards than Michigan.

Yes but we all know Michigan plays Real Football TM so it's fine.

To some degree it's an extension of the types of people who lose their shit over "participation trophies" for the purpose of demonstrating their manliness. On the other hand, bowls are a way to see one's favorite team play one more game this season, possibly against an interesting opponent, and maybe in an interesting destination one might want to visit.

Should be excited about a matchup with Notre Dame, but it's kind of a big meh. Half a coaching staff, top two QBs in the portal, top lineman and WR out because they're declaring for the draft, tough, expensive locale to reach, just not worth it when I can watch on TV.

Most of these bowl games, except for the CFP and some NYD matchups, are becoming meaningless when most of the best players leave before the game, or opt out. ESPN is helping kill its own golden goose.

One of the clickbait headlines I saw today was "ESPN"s coverage worse than FOX," or something like that. Not that ESPN had any credibility problem yesterday or anything.

For me, at least, it’s about how most of the bowls are just meaningless exhibitions with a corporate sponsored title on them. As a kid, I remember when bowls signified some prestige in that only a top tier team would get invited to one and even the names of the bowls sounded special.

Plus, having schools not in the same region facing each other was more of a novelty than nowadays and made for a more special matchup.

Now get rid of interleague play in MLB, bring back kayfabe in pro wrestling and get off my lawn.

First off, this day was on the charts from the day they started a four game playoff with five power conferences.

You know how you avoid all this nonsense? You hold a playoff, a real playoff, not something a step better than AP and the Coach's poll declaring who was number one after the bowls. Hell, even the NCAA knows how to do it.

Connor Stalions offered Harbaugh his report on Iowa's offensive signs and Harbaugh said, "Why?"
