Stephen A. is a force. Love his candor in that interview. Selfishly, would love to see what happens if he leaves ESPN — I certainly would not go out of my way to watch him elsewhere. Always interesting to separate the talent from ESPN as a thought-process.

He's not my cup of team, but Smith can give a forceful argument on almost anything, can say things that the rest of ESPN will talk about for the rest of the daily cycle. Smith can cite "his sources" as giving some journo cred to something, or he can come off as "Joe Fan" depending on what he's talking about. His journo background gives his opinons "weight" - his fandom makes his "journalism" more entertaining than others.
Pat McAfee should lean into his contacts with NFL players to give him some more weight - even something like "players I know around the league have told me privately that Josh McDaniels couldn't manage a McDonald's - he has zero people skills." Or, "I know players who have come up "injured" to avoid playing road games on that turf." McAfee could really gain some cred if he dug into some of the outrageous fines being levied on players, and why the NFLPA is so quiet about it.

He never will because he wants the gravy train to keep going. NFL ain't putting up with that on ESPN.

All he would have to do is carry the water for pissed-off NFL players who go unnamed.

BTW - how has JJ Watt gone still unclaimed by various media outlets?

What does McAfee do when it isn't the NFL season? I know it's a practically year round thing, but there are some slow months in late spring/early summer.

On the other hand is Charles Barkley, who seemed to carry himself well on "King Charles" on CNN Wednesday night.

Gotta give him credit: Stephen A. got kicked out of ESPN and then managed to find his way back. Olbermann is the only other one to pull that off.

Saw Watt last weekend when Phil Simms was ill. He did a decent job.
Last time I saw Simms, he made a reference to Fran Tarkenton. Guess that was for the 54+ demo.
