Man, caught the VCU-Memphis game last night on ESPNU. Had a chance to go on a free ticket but ultimately had other plans. Glad I missed. 7 p.m. start, ended at like 9:50. Just a brutal slog. Even if it hadn't gone to overtime, it wouldn't have ended until like 9:25. No fucking way college hoops games should be taking 2 1/2 hours. Too many goddamn timeouts and micromanaging egomaniacal coaches.

 

And Memphis won. Worst part of it all.

 

Minnesota made a free throw with 10.4 second to play last night to take a 10- or 11-point lead over Nebraska. Coach then called a time out. What for, to diagram a defense against the 12-point play?

 

College hoops would be much better if teams were allowed only one timeout in the final five minutes.

 

And it had to be called from the floor, not the bench.

 

So would every sport that has timeouts.

 

Complete gamesmanship. Phil Jackson used to do that in abundance.
