AD was absolutely dominant last night — the rare times when he is both healthy and motivated, he is a game changer on both ends of the floor, especially defensively

That I had to scroll down to page 5 of the board to find the NBA says something - maybe Silver was right that the NBA needed some "juice" before the Christmas Day games - I have nothing against the NBA tourney - thought the courts were cool - was also under the impression teams were supposed to wear special jerseys during game, the Lakers didn't get the memo. That said - if they needed the in-season tourney to give a crud before the calendar turns fine - but please - GOGGLES? Please don't tell me you were celebrating with champagne in the locker room. The Rookie League champs in Vegas don't celebrate as much as the Lakers did - and it isn't like those players will get much of a chance to celebrate anything in their NBA careers. And shouldn't they name the tourney after a legend, who doesn't have a trophy named after them already?

Agreed. The lesson from Year One should be: This was a good idea to add juice to December, the format needs some tweaks in qualifying to move on, cool it on the over-the-top celebration, trophy, medals, etc.

I think it eventually can just be a fun event like the Maui Invitational for the NBA. That is its proper place and a good thing.

I wouldn't mind if they added a little extra incentive for the winner. Automatic entry into the playoffs - and if you qualified anyway, they bump you up a slot - Unless of course, you are the top seed.

Maybe you get a three-game bump up in the standings at the end of the year sort of deal. I like it.

Maybe the NBA has a sponsor lined up but before they committed to it, they wanted to see how fans and players responded. I do wonder I there will a a "curse" attacthed to the tourney champ - injuries in the weeks following, never winning a title in the playoffs in the same year you win the Cup.

Assume that’s the case in terms of a sponsor — you don’t want to be attached to a disaster. All of the games count as part of the 82 except for the last one, so it’s not going to be too taxing. I think the whole experiment was fine, except that the first semifinal started way too early. I might have just done the final in Vegas on Saturday and play the semis at home, maybe with the games being the exclusive ones that night.

I’m an unabashed fan of the In-Season Tourney. The games were generally fantastic.

I assume LeBron wanted it so badly because he knows the trophy will be named after him once he retires.

Don't underestimate the appeal of $500k. LeBron is a guy who famously listens to commercials on Pandora because he refuses to pay for premium.

All these years later, there's still something so cool and fucking crisp about the way LeBron snatches a rebound.

The guy is a remarkable player.

We all have those aging milestone moments and because I’m the same age as LeBron and the first big events I covered as a high schooler working at a newspaper was his runs to the OHSAA title games, his retirement will be a bit of a shock to the system — despite it being absurd that a retirement could seem shocking after 24-25 seasons.
