I watched Scrooged today. At one point, Bill Murray falls into an underground sewer/drain/steam vent/something. He said, "What is this place, Trump Tower?"
All the way back in '88 some people were making fun of him.

 

I remember there were a few Trump jokes on NYPD Blue. I'm sure you can find plenty of other examples in other movies or television shows from the '80s.

 

Five or six years ago, I decided to re-watch the t.v. series "In the Heat of the Night." I about laughed my ass off when I got to the end of the third season where there's this two episodes story arch with a villain named V.J. Trundel who was clearly a thinly veiled Donald Trump. It was even a minor plot point that the character had recently tried and failed to buy a professional football team.

 

Gremlins 2 features an evil tower owner named Daniel Clamp. He's played by John Glover who starred in Scrooged.

 

Because academics and administration are different things and the brightest in the former don't always end up going on to do the latter?
