Didn't read the X thread; did watch Adams; He got over run on a nice combo block, where the OL "takes him where he wants to go," and CMC cuts back.

The botch here - IMO - is the safety coming up (who I circled in my crude graphic ... apologies).

Safety should be playing inside leverage into the alley here, and when the linebackers get leveraged out he's got to "make them right" on the fly. My solid line is the gap the safety needed to fill; my dotted line is where he goes.

49ers end up with three guys in one gap, and no guys in the crease.

Also ... that's a 2 or a 3 tech on Adams' side. That guy gets completely worked by that combo. Total overtake by OT, and the guard comes off clean.

Yeah - I disagree that Adams is the problem here.

Why not modify the rules so that tackles (define the position specifically) may line up in an angled position as long as one foot remains within one yard of the LOS at the snap?

It would basically legalize what has become common practice, but it would eliminate the situation where officials are deciding from play to play which rules to enforce or not.

Again: We have several officials on this board who can correct me. But as I understand it (and coach it up to the HS level), the tackle's head needs to be at the center's hip. So he can already cock a foot back.

For the record: I think that Chiefs T lines up illegally constantly, and I wish refs would call it.

Adams disagrees with you and said he was the problem

Kudos to him for not saying, "Safety gotta make a better play there."

Yeah, I get that but as many people are saying, several teams, KC most blatantly, are aleady fudging with the rule, with the apparent acquiescence of the officials, and opposing teams have not really made a huge deal about it, indicating it's kinda been accepted by common practice. Which sets up the hypothetical situation some ref will decide to start calling it in a playoff situation, etc etc. Nothing very good is likely to happen in these situations where refs decide on the fly which rules they're gonna enforce on which play.

Adams will look for anyone else to blame but himself. He’s terrible.

Having two Monday Night Football games starting at the same time is dumb.

So is what the Titans punt returner just did.

And the one I thought would stink is headed for a fantastic finish.
