It would be nice if, whatever SCOTUS decides, it does so either unanimously (fat chance of that) or of a decidedly mixed nature (i.e., you've got, say, Kagan and Thomas on one side and Alito and Jackson on the other).

I agree. I don't think either is likely, but given the number of novel questions the case presents, it's entirely possible. I'm somewhat worried about a plurality opinion, which would be a disaster, with two or three justices wanting to overturn it for one reason and two or three for another, and multiple dissents.

I wonder what Nixon thinks about all this. Probably “expletive deleted”.

Funny how their rulings show how "they're fighting for our country," and rulings like what we just had in Colorado are "election interference" and "politically motivated."

Even if no Jan. 6 attack occurred, Trump's childish refusal to concede and obstruction in the transition are disqualifying. Downright unpatriotic.

Because the legal issues of this case are so complex, and because of its urgent nature, cynical me thinks it offers the Court majority a splendid opportunity to delay ruling until it has rendered Jack Smith's suit over Trump's immunity claim (also urgent, but pretty clear cut yea or nay issue) until it becomes clear the ensuing trial will not be completed by Election Day.

Isn't the basis of our elections that the states run the elections as they see fit? Wouldn't arguing be something akin to establishing a Federal oversight to elections? And leading to a slippery slope leading to a national election standard that would limit how states could run elections as they saw fit with regard to eligibility and processing of ballots?

On the flip side, wait till deep red states decide to keep Biden (and future blues) off their ballots.

They’re also bleating how the court is overturning democracy while at the same time screeching that we’re a republic; not a democracy.

I’m all for the elimination of the electoral college and the strengthening of federal oversight of POTUS elections.
