Florida Start has had ample ability to go to ACC Headquarters and read the contract since before it was signed. They should have arranged to read the actual contract at that time. In fact I bet they had lawyers read it at that time.

As for the nugget that ESPN ahs the option to renew at rates negotiated in 2013 so what? The fact that ESPN negotiated an exit clause was a coup on their part. The contract calls for a 4.5% increase in the rates annually. If the value of collegiate football television rights had risen at only three percent annually since 2013 I do not think FSU would be filing lawsuits today.

I agree that in hindsight the contract is a disaster for FSU. And maybe they will be able to get a hometown judge to agree to let them out. And maybe they will negotiate a settlement. But I would be far more sympathetic if they had exited when Maryland did rather than waiting 10 years to discover the problems.

Someone needs to go in there and re-read the document while wearing a pair of smart glasses. Information wants to be free!

And they all signed off on this after we had already had two more rounds of realignment (2003, 2010). Did they honestly believe it was all done? I’m dying to see what legal action they use to boot the Vanderbilts and Purdues to add bigger programs….contingent upon the payment of an expansion fee of course.

This will certainly lead to a settlement and negotiated exit in the near future. That’s the point. I don’t think they’re seeking anyone’s sympathy, because sympathy doesn’t have any value unless the aim is moral victories. The CFP decision and pro-FSU backlash, as one timely example, demonstrates that acutely.

I think the "so called P5 conference" stung a bit as well.

But he doesn't. He's listing teams off the top of his head without an ounce of proof. There's not a single source listed, nor does he provide any insight other than "my best guess is." It's a shoddy "opinion piece" with an equally misleading headline.

They should also be suing ESPN and the playoff committee for collusion

The Alabamas and Ohio States of the world still need some scrubs to beat up on. Plus, the Vanderbilts and Purdues pull their weight in other sports, which often gets overlooked in these discussions. There is life beyond football.
Those schools won't get kicked out just for existing. They're made men. The biggest conferences will only get bigger, not smaller.

Big XII bloggers/YouTubers are already trying to paint Utah as a school that is just biding its time in the 12 until the Big 10 comes calling. If the Big 10 had wanted Utah, it would already have Utah.

The Big 12 guys are lusting over Florida State and Miami but also holding out that Oregon State and Wazzu are trying to "buy their way" in. And, of course, the Gonzaga rumors just won't die.

Play on loop all week long.

Are Utah/BYU a package deal at this point?
