Do media types even bother reaching out to the Trump campaign - does he even have a campaign manager? a press person? and ask to clarify his remarks? If he is having a mental breakdown? That they don't even bother to do that - while they will ask the most inane questions of the WH's responsed to the GOP talking point of the day is really kind of bizarre. I mean - even DeSantis could probably get behind bashing the media's enabling of Trump. "This guy goes of on looney tunes rants in the middle of Christmas eve and my press people have to respond to a video of me eating something being "unPresidential? WTF?"

The problem is this is yet another step in the multi decade campaign by the conservative fascist screech machine to weaponize the legal concept of assumption of innocence.

The authoritarian fascist conservatives have hated the concept of assumption of innocence for decades and decades. The fascists think everybody is always guilty; they're fine with cops acting as judge jury and executioners in the streets. They thought the Miranda decision was an abomination, because look at all the neegros and mexkins and other funny colored people who get to walk free, because of shifty lawyers (usually jooish). So we'll show you.

The fascists fume when people "get off" on criminal charges because of "technicalities" and "political correctness" and "wokeism" and "shifty legal maneuvers" so they want to flip the whole narrative: they want conservatives to be able to commit crimes right out in full public view, on live worldwide teevee; they don't give a shit what the evidence is or how much there is, they believe Fatfuck must be eternally presumed innocent of everything.

In the real world of course, everybody knows Fatfuck is guilty of literally everything. Every time.
