College football bowl thread: Days of Signs and Roses

Bring back the Fight Hunger Bowl and let them starve.

 

A couple I went to college with is back in town for the holidays so we met for drinks and dinner. And we lingered an extra 20-30 minutes because we became morbidly fascinated with the Pop Tarts Bowl and wanted to see the postgame ceremony. (ESPN cut away to the Alamo Bowl so we huddled around my phone.) Right before that clip was some corporate drone trying to get a “Toast that mascot” chant going. The whole things felt like a pyschadelic mashup of Leni Riefenstahl, Idiocracy and Hanna-Barbera.

 

Tom Hart just did an in-game promo for Navy Federal Credit Union and their ROTC Scholarship……yeah……he pronounces it out “Rot-sea”……
I like Hart, Rodgers and Cole but good grief.

 

I liked Rodgers and Hart once in a "Blue Moon."

 

LARRY KING VOICE:
"Folks, I'm a straight-talker from way back, and NOTHING
beats the pageantry of ... [checks notes] ... the Pop-Tarts Bowl!"

 

1. What flavor was the giant Pop-Tart?
2. Did they toast it?

 

This game is taking an eternity.

2. Did some kind of David Copperfield knockoff thing where the mascot stood on top of the platform and was slowly lowered inside via what was supposed to look like a toaster slot. Then after a few seconds a special panel opened on the front of the would-be toaster and an oversized pop tart appeared.

BONUS OBSERVATION: The “live” mascot had a dent in the middle of his frosting like maybe someone tried to do a temperature check on the filling with their thumb.

 

Wasn't he at Penn State?

 

Jedd Fisch needs to be the next big-boy job opening top candidate. What he's done at Arizona is pretty remarkable.

 

Eh, never liked Pop-Tarts, anyway.
