If your BUSINESS can't sustain its number of employees, and you're depending on someone to dip into his (albeit deep) pockets for money that didn't come out of the business revenue . . . you might as well drop the pretense and panhandle outside his front door.

Or you could just, you know, run a newspaper down there in Florida that pays its sell-out "journalists" to weed out any story that doesn't cater exactly to its partisan villagers residents every day of every week of every year.

Wow, I guess Bezos is counting his nickels now.

Again, why should Bezos run the Post as anything other than a business? He's rich so he should pony up?

When it's nickels to him, yes.

I've thought it out. If Bezos bought the WaPo expecting it to run like any other business, he's not nearly as smart as people give him credit for.

It should be run like a professional sports franchise -- as a legacy purchase.

Do rich people buy newspapers because they expect them to make money?

Or because they want a megaphone in the national discussion?

    Both.

Well then, be careful what you wish for. If he is obligated, in your view, to subsidize the operation, maybe he thinks he gets to choose what is reported.

Things are okay when they go your way
