Some of these teams waiting to see if they make the playoffs or not before making a decision on their coach are being kind of dumb, given the randomness of results week to week in the NFL. Better to take a wider look and where the team is, is it getting better etc?
We're on the cusp of "Black Monday" and you just know some teams are going to make some really bad decisions, whether keeping or getting rid of coaches, really dumb hires that set the franchise back years because they felt pressure to make a quick hire or hire a hot name. Some owners would rather "win the press conference" than win a playoff game it seems. I'd love to hear a question asked at a presser quoting comments made by an owner about the previous coach when they were hired and why this time it will be different. Did they do the search and interview process differently? Have more people within the organization participate? Players? Former players? Staff?

Can someone who unfortunately for them has seen more of the Broncos than I have this season explain this anomaly to me. Every time I've watched Russell Wilson in action, admittedly not often, he has looked very much done. Yet the stats show he was having a better than decent year before he got benched by Payton. How'd those numbers come to be?

Looks like we're in for a fun weather game in Baltimore. No snow, unfortunately, but cold rain throughout, 10-15 mph winds, and possibly some sleet.

Garbage time stats, maybe? He was 23-of-38 for 306 yards, one touchdown and one interception against the Dolphins. That doesn't look bad on paper, but we obviously know how it turned out.
That was also one of two 300-yard games he had this year, and the last one, and it was in Week 3. During the five-game winning streak that got them back into the playoff hunt, he had 200+ yards once. He's 19th in the league in passing yards, and even if you project 250 yards for last week's game that he didn't play against the Chargers it only moves him up a couple of spots.
The Broncos are 26th in number of first downs, and 31st in passing first downs, which seems like an indicator that the offense wasn't sustaining drives.
So even his stats are mid-level at best, and if he's not moving the offense consistently then there you go.

What I can't figure out is why they're keeping him active if they have no intention of playing him? Why not bring in another jabroni to muddle through the last two weeks and make Wilson the third QB? Wilson and Stidham are the only two quarterbacks on the roster right now. If Stidham gets knocked out of the game, they're going to have to put Wilson back in. That'll be awkward and interesting.

Look at his stats against the pre-Montez Sweat Bears defense.

Yeah, that's going to complicate things. Ravens are sitting Jackson, both receivers and a starting lineman on offense, Hamilton and Humphrey on defense. If everyone else plays, that might make it an even fight.

On the other hand, Wilson's TD pass to INT ratio is very good, 26-8, and he leads the league in both 4th quarter comeback and game-winning drives. So it wasn't all garbage time.

On the other other hand, needing fourth-quarter comebacks could be a sign that he sucked for the first three quarters and the team was playing from behind.

He's the anti-Justin Fields. Struggles to get going but still makes plays when it counts. For what it's worth, he's played a lot better this year than he did last year. I don't think Payton ever wanted to stick with him, and the only way that was going to change was if Wilson played really good, not just better than last year. I'd be interested to see him in a place like Atlanta, where he would be surrounded by playmaker. I think he would do well in such a situation.

Worked out for that other Broncos quarterback.

How can your main camera let your lens get this goofed up? C’mon.

I wonder if the Vikings might be interested … and if they could sign Russ to, say, a two-year deal that might be less than what they would pay Cousins.
