I'm betting dollars to donuts we hear your quip stolen for use on a recap show tonight or tomorrow.

Damn, I had no clue about this rookie season by the Rams' Puka Nacua. Just set the league record for rookie receiving yards.

Fields has shown time and again that he plays his worst under pressure. He has the worst fourth quarter completion percentage in the league. And if you are worried that trading him will mess up lockerroom chemistry, maybe you should want a lockerroom full of winners instead of friends. Fields seems like a great kid, but the Bears would be insane to hitch their future to him. Chances the guy they would pick to replace him isn't the answer are fairly high because that's how the NFL works (except for the fucking Packers), but if you have a chance to draft a potential difference-maker FOR THE SECOND-STRAIGHT YEAR over a guy who has not shown he can lead a team (after three full years), then success is not something this franchise deserves. Poles has to know he will get fired after next season if he keeps Fields. He's gotta be smarter than the "Fields is my QB1" dopes. But I don't want to be all negative. He has thrown for almost 90 yards nearing the end of the third quarter!

I think Justin Fields has a helluva lot better chance of becoming a franchise QB than, say, Kenny Pickett. I don't think it will happen in Chicago, but I don't think he's being written off throughout the league. A guy with his skill set will erupt under the right system and coaching.

I don’t necessarily disagree with you about Fields having problems finishing games, but he wasn’t the one who let the best running back and best linebacker on the team leave last year, either.

The Bears have never been a team that can win without a strong defense and running game, and that won’t change regardless of who is at QB.

Do you think they are coaching to play his worst at the most important time? I hope some team is fooled by the occasional highlight reel plays and is willing to pony up. But I would be shocked if he draws more than a second-rounder. Unless they really value field goal drives.

Chris Jones just made a million bucks for getting his 10th sack. The Chiefs stormed the field to celebrate w/him. Scott Hansen gave an appropriately giddy play-by-play.

    tl;dr fuck Adam Schefter

If the quarterback is good enough, you don't need every other player on the team to be great. Franchise quarterbacks elevate their teammates. And while I respect your takes as a fellow old guy, letting Montgomery go meant nothing in the grand scheme of things, and the defense is the least of their problems. Bears fans are so conditioned to make excuses for their quarterbacks* that they can't fathom having a great one. It might never happen, but if you are content with "he could be"s, you deserve to root for a losing team.

*I did it for years with Cutler.

I am enjoying these. The seem organic, and I love the teammates getting excited.

I don't disagree with your point. But that doesn't happen in a vacuum. If Fields is stinking up the place in crunch time, chances are everyone around him is stinking up the place too.

Meh. They both have their weaknesses. I don't think Fields can be consistent enough as a passer. I think the Steelers did a lot to ruin Pickett, pounding into his head that he must avoid turnovers at all costs. They took away his aggressiveness. Maybe a new offensive coordinator can help him figure it out, but he will need a big step forward next season. I imagine their preference would be to have Rudolph and Pickett compete for the job next season, but I think Rudolph will leave as a free agent. Somebody will overpay for the fool's gold.
