Schlitz was good stuff in the 1960s and 1970s before the bean counters messed with the recipe and started brewing skunk beer. Totally killed the brand.

Grain Belt Premium is pretty good stuff. They should revive Schmidt (not Schmidt's), drank a lot of that when I lived in North Nowhere.

Good friend of mine bought a sixer of Shiner Bock Sea Salt & Lime.
Took one drink and that was it.
    Chucked the rest of it.

Assuming you're responding to my post about Drewry's, the actual brewer is a decent craft outfit called Sand Creek Brewing. Their Badger Porter is very good. The bock is respectable as a single bock, velvety in mouthfeel but without the alcohol punch of a dopplebock. A similar single bock on store shelves now in Wisconsin is New Glarus' "Uff-da." That brewer likely will have a dopplebock called "Gyrator" on sale in the spring if past performance holds up. Looking forward to that.

IIRC Leinie's makes a bock that is repulsive, as are most of their beers other than the soda-pop "shandy" variety.

As mentioned, they brought back the original recipe for Schlitz and it is good. Unfortunately, at least two generations grew up with it being horrific swill, and it's rep still suffers for it.

Just to clarify ... Shiner is a brand, Bock is a style of beer.
Shiner does make a Sea Salt & Lime beer, a flavored American Lager ... but it's not a Bock. LOL

And Sand Creek made a better Shandy than Leinie's the last time I was through that way. More of a Mike Hard Lemonade/malt beverage type of Shandy, milky white and carbonated.

I miss the days Leinie's had 1888 Bock, the Big Eddy series and such. I did go to The Lodge a few years back and the actual beer they make is great...but they really push on those "shandypops" at grocery stores.

Two things I grew fond of going to college in the Midwest: Leinenkugels and euchre.

    You’re right.
I had them both going in my mind at the same time.
