Please allow me to interject my feelings about Mother Nature

By most of the country’s standards (and apparently Russia, for some reason) the Bay Area’s weather hasn’t been terrible, but it’s bad for us. Rainy off and on and dipping into low 30s overnight. Yeah, yeah put on a coat (I used to live in Boulder as a small kid. I get it) but when we’re used to it staying 40s overnight and 60s during the day, it bad.

So that’s the context for my real complaint: my classroom’s heater isn’t working. It’s been in the 50s in my room all day yesterday and Monday. When I complained, someone from the district office had the gaul to tell me the heater was working but slowly because they could see it going up slightly. I said no shit. I have 45 people in the room. Of course the room is getting warmer. That’s body heat not the heater.

The solution was to bring me a space heater with 15 minutes left in the day. Mind you it’s a heater that might warm someone’s office. My class is an extra large room to accommodate a double class.

 

Which leads to teachers buying space heaters as school supplies. Oof.

 

We can not control the thermostats in our rooms. They are controlled and monitored by one person at a central location. If you do anything to mess with it like shine a light on it to make it seem hotter and force on the air or hang something cool on it to force the heat higher, he can tell, and you get a nasty email.

 

So . . . No heat for you!!!

 

Temperatures in the teens all the way down to the Gulf Coast next week. Wind chills below zero all the way down into the Mississippi Delta.

 

I hate the cold. Makes my old bones ache.

 

The important takeaway here is that God hates Missouri.

 

We can adjust it hotter or colder but the district can shut it down at any point. but
