    The time has come.

Making "The Walk" tomorrow. Giving two months' notice. Let's see if I get to work and finish up or spend two months unemployed but playing tennis and working out.

Are the odds they escort you back to your desk from the meeting higher than 50-50? If so, bring home anything important tonight.

It's a TV station, so guessing an escort to his car and they'll have someone clean out his desk and mail it to him. I've seen it happen a few times, even in layoffs.

Ex, when does the new job start?

I've had a backpack throughout the week to bring a few things home with me here and there, quietly. Today will mostly just be about getting the contacts on my work phone over to my personal.

I would put it at -125 that I am told to leave immediately tomorrow. But I am offering a LONG notice.

The TV news business becomes so "personal" when you tell a boss that you're leaving. In six stations, I've never had a boss say "Hey! Wonderful! That's a great move for you!"

    It's always been, "well, okay".

As long as I stay, we're a "family". The moment I find something better for my career, it's usually been "f you".

God how I hated "playing out the season." When I got out of journalism those two weeks were agonizing ... then years later I was an academic who let 'em know in February that I'd be leaving (effectively) in June. Agony, sheer agony.

There won't be any "non-compete" involved, right? I've always thought that was total crap in whatever business that did it.

No non-compete in this case. Moving seven states away.

Your new gig doesn’t start for two months? I take it there’s no easy outs for them in your contract between now and then, right?

Enjoy the day and I hope it’s smooth. I’ve never gotten the immediate walkout whenever I’ve left. Never worked in TV. That seems like it’d be oddly satisfying.

Sounds like you’re in good position to take the unpaid time if it comes to that. Which is awesome

From my first job at 22 until now in my very late 40s, I’ve had five job changes, short stints early while I was ladder climbing. I’d always left a job and immediately started the new job, mostly for financial reasons.

My last change, it all finally worked out with an already planned vacation that I took about three weeks off before the new job. It was so overdue and needed. Longest consecutive time off since I was 22. And I was leaving a long-term, rewarding but highly stressful job.

Enjoy the time off of if it works out that way.

Please post details about your last day. I have been following this saga from the start and I am excited to read the conclusion.
