The guy could recruit his ass off, that's for sure. At least he could at Alabama. He wound up with 44 first-round draft picks. I don't want to take anything away from him as a coach, but a golden retriever would have had similar results with that kind of talent.

Alabama continues to develop 5-stars at a staggering rate

It's one thing to recruit talent but its another thing to develop it. Mack Brown could recruit like crazy too and the results were nowhere near what Saban had,

Not originally from. Do live in the region.

As for FSU, their refusal to see the big picture is the problem. They’re going to cause a lot of destruction.

It's all one thing. Obviously Saban's pitch to the five-stars was "come to Alabama and you'll get better every year. You'll be ready for the NFL." And it worked because he delivered. Spencer Hall pointed out that there are currently 57 former Alabama players on NFL teams. That's more than a franchise's entire roster.

If true, good luck to DeBoer and Bama fans. Seems a bit of a risk and reach for both sides. This guy was coaching at NAIA schools not too long ago.

Looks like it's true. We'll have to wait for an announcement but he's expected to sign soon according to everything I hear. 'Bama interviewed Ryan Grubb, the Washington OC, last year, nearly got hired by Saban. He might come if he is not promoted to HC there - and he has no HC experience and they're going into the B1G, so I don't see it. The whole UW coaching staff is likely to get cherry picked to Bama.

This looks like a fabulous hire. You never know for sure, but this isn't hiring Brian Harsin.

What Bama or even SEC ties does he have?

If we were hiring him straight from Sioux Falls, then hell yes I’d panic. But he’s been in a power program a step below the supertanker class, so that part is covered. And the years (and championships) in NAIA make me inclined to think he can handle the mechanics of coaching ball. In a world of risks, this one feels well-calculated.

It's Bama. They're going to be able to recruit. That was a nationwide recruiting area *before* the portal and NIL, more so now. I don't doubt that there will be SEC rooted staff as well.
