Same with me when Adam Vinatieri retired as he was the last active player in MLB, NFL, NBA and NHL to be older than me, albeit by less than a month.

Although I think Jaromir Jagr is still active with a team in Europe. Come back, Jaromir!

I remember distinctly when Randy Johnson pitched a perfect game at the age of 40 calling a buddy to alert him to the last great sport achievement by someone older than us.

The flip side of that is a 30-year-old tennis player used to be either well past done or, more likely, retired.

There was a time, in the early 1990s, I believe, where no man over 28 won a tennis tournament for more than a year.

I haven't looked it up to confirm ('cause I'm too damn lazy), but this stat came up in a Yahoo sports blog:

Since 2000, there have been 24 Super Bowls and 24 college football title games (48 combined). Belichick, Carroll and Saban have coached in 22 of those games (46%) and have won 15 of them (31%).
