It just flurried here for about a half-hour. All the kids on the block ran outside hoping for enough to make snowballs.

No such luck today. We’re supposed to get a measurable amount (3ish inches) tomorrow night.

To me, once it gets below 10 above, the temperature stops mattering. It’s just cold.

    Still, I think I would take 10 over 110.

Yeah, the roads are hockey rinks here in Microville. ASU's women's team made it up from Eugene after friday's game there but today's game at Gill is being played without fans, they just told people to stay home. I'm not going anywhere today. One nice thing about the snow, it gets rid of the gloom, it's nice and bright out. And there is no school on Monday because of the MLK Day holiday, that's a break.

No plow service for only an inch or two. Hmm.

Well, it’s 14 degrees now and snowing. I’m ready for 105 again.

It's 40 right now. Snow staring Monday. Tuesday it's supposed to be 3.

The general rule of thumb here is that the private services only come out when the town plows do, but not for when the town considers salting and sanding to be enough.

UPDATE: Different friend drove me out - gave me a jump - car started right up. Drove home fine, even stopped to load up on food and beer for my hibernation. I think I'm just going to take the win and not press my luck, whether its my car or a car slamming into me.

It’s times like this when I remember what I absolutely don’t miss about Montana.

In the category of “Things I wish I didn’t need to learn,” I have discovered that I can turn the shutoff valves for the toilets on the north side of our house so they’re barely running, then jam the float in the tank so the refill valve is always open. That way a slow stream of water is always running through the toilets’ water supply lines in the attic and they are less likely to freeze. Because the pitch of the roof isn’t steep enough, there isn’t room to better insulate them. Luckily, because we had to replace polybutylene water lines with Pex, they’re less likely to break by freezing. It was -1 last night and 0 the night before. Once or twice a year, those temperatures and a north wind force us into arctic mode. If we lived farther north, we’d be in a house prepared for it. A bit to the south and it wouldn’t be a problem.
