If the indictments are weak or phony or absurd or politically motivated, let a jury or a judge decide. Let the process make that determination - rather than the editorial board at the Times or the WSJ.

I understand the skepticism (even the cynicism) surrounding the law and how it's applied to the powerful, but it's what we have.

Despite what those august bodies' press releases might suggest, I doubt seriously that they're that influential.

Not idiotic. If he’s using false business records to defraud banks into loaning or giving him money, it’s theft on a grand scale.

    Interesting discussion here.

Another way to look at it: What if the Capitol security people -- or D.C. police or the National Guard -- hadn't treated the Jan. 6 mob with kid gloves? What if they took the Mayor Daley approach and bloodied and killed dozens or hundreds of Trump's supporters?

I'm not sure if that would have sparked a nationwide powder keg or not. But I do know that three years later, people are more divided and more extreme in their opinions.

It's not going to go smoothly regardless if he's the nominee -- and he will be. And, the Steve Bannon's of the world have had four years to rewatch the game film and see what second half adjustments need to be made.

I'll answer my own question: We're damned lucky the Jan. 6 mob was more interested in posting on social media and pooping in Nancy Pelosi's office than actually organizing a rebellion.

They will have had four years to plan and organize their next attempt.

You're right, and Coco's right. I don't think we spent enough time considering how much worse that could have been.

But what I'm being asked is how high a price I'd pay for safety of the populace. And my answer is, apparently higher than many.

I don't need to measure up on a toughness scale. I need to live to 95.

The NY indictment is a joke. ... Alvin Bragg is tool. This is about his own ambitions, not about justice. I think he did a disservice to the other cases by lumping that nonsense in with them because you're dealing with someone who will muddle things to try to skate on the more serious things he's been accused of.

But yeah, it still needs to go before a jury, so there's that, I guess. The irony would be if he's convicted of paying off a porn star, but walking on the classified documents case, where he clearly violated laws (done wiht arrogance) that anyone would be prosecuted for.

I agree with you, we need to let the process play out. Unfortunately, the process is unpredictable. The same morons who voted him president could conceivably be part of those juries.
