Harbaugh inherited Alex Smith and turned the 49ers into a 13-win team in year one, but that was 13 years ago and before his ego became twice the size of the solar system. I can see him not wanting to work with anyone other than his own guy...in which case the Chargers should get a HAUL for Herbert. He seemed to stagnate the last couple years but that could easily be the environment he was in.

I have not studied Herbert much (or watched him much) these past couple of years but I still remember that do or die game against the Raiders (Last game of year, to get into the playoffs, 2021?) and he was throwing lasers that were the best I've ever seen. That's the guy I think of when you say Herbert.

Oh, I think he's a keeper, albeit from limited viewings. I could just see Harbaugh being Harbaugh and not wanting anyone he couldn't fully mold himself.

Five straight years of twerking for every opening finally paid off for Jeem.

    Why would he do that?

Ther are some really odd evaluations of QB’s in this thread.

What, you don’t think he’s going to trade a top 8 NFL QB so he can draft - at best - the 6th best QB in this college class?

The bidding war between the Chargers and wherever Belichick ends up will be fierce.

He’s perfect just being a grumpy old man who doesn’t deal with the press and masterminding an offensive line. He worked miracles with the Browns line and might’ve said two things of note during his entire stay.

When it comes to Herbert, I'm just saying I would never put anything past a guy as insanely egomaniacal as Harbaugh, especially fresh off winning the national title at his alma mater.

As talented as he is, it just seems like Herbert is going to have catch lightning in a bottle to ever even sniff a Super Bowl. I could see that happening, but just barely.

Lightning in a bottle, meaning competent management and coaching?
