You got a $2B business, you worried about extra $10M/yr?

I was referring to the amount of coaches being paid, not the amount of dollars.

I did not have the Knicks, down to their 3rd string center, up 32 to the Nuggets after 3.

Schedule loss. Nugs coming off a tough win the night before in Indy, thought they might fall flat at MSG.

Did Doc Rivers have a sudden career reappraisal? I assumed everyone agreed he was overrated and not very good at managing end of games. Is he particularly known for really upgrading a team's defense?

Add in the last game of a five-game Eastern trip. No surprise at all.

Which is why I was surprised why the Bucks were focused on him. About the only thing he offers is his experience with the Sixers and Celtics - but you figure that is of limited value.

Doc is far more respected inside the game than he is by fans. There's a pretty big disconnect there.

Scarcity of asset, I imagine. They don't dare roll the dice with another assistant so they need a veteran coach that players would listen to, Who's out there that's still relatively close to the game from a bench rather than a broadcast seat?

Atkinson is currently an assistant with the Warriors and last we saw him KD had him fired to install a first-time coach (who KD also fired).

Can't imagine they'd put a call into Terry Stotts after the way his brief tenure went.

They missed out on Nick Nurse because Giannis didn't want him.

Dwane Casey may have shown his ceiling and it would be essentially treading water.

    Mike Bud...oh, right.

That '08 title has been doing a lot of work for Doc's resume, but guys will listen to and respect him. How long that lasts depends on when Doc starts looking out for Doc and begins introducing players to the undercarriage of a bus should things go worse than hoped for.

I think Doc qualifies as a Grown Up when it comes to coaches. You know he's not going to embarrass the organization, and he's a steady hand to captain you. You should not give him that much control over GM decisions, because then you end up with anyone that had a fluke 20-point game against you on the roster. If things break right, he can win a title, but he often gets exposed by more aggressive / tactical coaches.

There really are like three or four levels of coaches. There is the guy a team just throws at a bottom tier team. Hopes he doesn't cause damage to a developing roster while the young team matures. Once the team is on the cusp of the playoffs, you need someone who has coached a team in the playoffs, preferably one that has won a series or two. Then you are looking for one who has made a conference finals - and beyond that - the Championship coaches.
