Instead of asking whether an obit is worth A1, we now ask if it’s worth a push notification.

Take a look at me now
    I'm in this holy place
But this sculpture still reminds me
    Of my 1980 face

Just imagine if Mel Tillis tried to sing “Sussudio”.

Now if the statue says "I Wish It Would Rain Down," we'll know.

Bonus points if Eric Clapton also emerges.

Easy fix: "Mel, let's do 'Sudio' next."

Mel Tillis was in town once for a concert, back around 1985, and came by the paper for an interview session with our entertainment writer. Then he asked for a tour of the newsroom, said he'd always wanted to see one in action, and I was tapped to show him around. Very nice guy, very humble, and wide-eyed and happy all the way through the place.

Mel didn't stutter when he sang. So he would have handled it.

He turns 73 today. Hopefully he's doing better than those pictures might indicate.

I think there was a big "Lamb Lies Down On Broadway" re-issue either released recently or scheduled to be released and I kinda want it.

I've heard a lot of his stuff on the radio lately while waiting for school pickup. Makes me uneasy about his prospects. It's weird listening to someone at the peak of their powers and then seeing that photo.
I cranked this in my car one day and a jogger gave me the stinkeye.
