    It's data that is commercially available to anyone who wants to buy it -- you, me, US companies, foreign countries, etc. The NSA (and the FBI, because he has done this gotcha on them too) didn't gather the data. They just did what anyone else could do.

    If you have a problem with that, you have a problem with the NSA existing at all. I am actually somewhat sypmathetic to that. But it's kind of dishonest to say they are "spying on Americans." Spying, almost by definition, means you are doing something covertly or secretly. They bought commercially available data that is available to anyone.
