Gonna be rainy and windy all weekend here. Can I call it Crosby weather?

That's always a best practice, but not a fan of how these signature events award more FedEx points than regular events.

Is it just me or does the Pro-Am seem to have zero actors or musicians - you just have Pau Gasol. Brady, Allen and Rodgers, Larry Fitz and retired Niners lineman Harris Barton and Young. No Murray?

Got boosted to a "signature event" so the amateur field was halved to accommodate more pros. Plus, Monterey Peninsula CC was dropped, so they'll cut after play tomorrow and the last two rounds will be at Pebble Beach.

Have I mentioned I once was right behind Trump one year at the event when he was walking around looking for a hospitality tent at the end of the day? No entourage or anything, just him. What tipped me off was when some girls - waaay too young for him waving at him yelling "Hi Donald!!!!"

I interviewed him at a major championship in the early aughts. Same thing, standing by himself (in the press area) behind the 18th green. Thought it might be a hassle, but he was/is such a media/publicity whore that it wasn't. This was at the height of his game show.

    Who knew?

Saw hin at the 2003 Deutsche Bank at TPC Norton during the pro-am. Had very good amateur distance (sure better than mine) on the practice tee, Was kind of dragging ass down the 18th (not that I wouldn't of) but was clearly cheered by people yelling his name. Very reminiscent of solid amateurs staggering down Boylston St. at the Marathon. That was 20 years ago.

Love the story. Hate what Meredith did to Aycock and lesser extent to Marshall. I understand the coach now has an actual decent team and would rather be competitive, but he used them to get there but has no use for them now? He may have the best intentions and might be a great guy, but he comes off poorly in this article.

And even worse, Aycock is a pariah, mainly because Meredith's AD has no spine to tell some old alumnae biddy to f--- off? Egregious.

But the majors wouldn't be the majors without those players developing their game at tournaments like the Rocket Mortgage. There's got to be a viable product between the majors.

Shannon Yates learned how not to have a spine during her time at NCSU. Wasn't terribly impressed by her, but Meredith doesn't get some massive climber in the industry, unfortunately for them.

That part of the story stunk ... but not because it was written. I get the impression the coach is trying to figure out how to continue to thank them without punishing the better golfers that he now has at his disposal. The coach seems to be fully aware that, without them, he wouldn't have a program or that particular gig (though with the other position at the club, it might not be his primary gig).

I hear you and agree with you on the points ... but, IMO, the overall quality of the piece still shines in spite of the school's missteps.

That’s just so wrong what they did to Aycock. Meredith got so much more because those two stepped up than what one weasel alum could do.
