Sounds like the LIV event is headed to the crapper.

Between some kind of bug racing through LIV and lousy weather at Pebble Beach, maybe the golf Gods are having a say this week about all the stupid money in the game.

Even God has lost interest in this game.

Honestly was never a Langer fan probably if I'm fully transparent because he was German and in '85 WWII was still fresh in my mind; however as I've gotten older I've been amazed at his performance on the Senior tour (even though I most hardly care week to week because the newbies who are around 50-51 usually dominate, but to see him still winning at 65 is tremendous.)

    Now, this:

Langer's Masters send-off spoiled by torn Achilles

    Bummer, hope he recovers fully.

Covered a Champions event years ago where he had a bad round and he called it "rubbish." Not crap or garbage or something more crass -- rubbish. Just found that oddly cool.

My wife was a dental assistant and at one time worked for a dentist who took care of the Lakers. The dentist eventually stopped because he had to be at every game and didn't want that commitment. But he still worked with some members of the team who came into the office in Beverly Hills. One Friday night, we were home, phone rings and it is the doctor's answering service. Do you know where the doctor is? Wife remembers the name of the restaurant where he was going. Langer was at the Lakers game and broke a tooth eating popcorn. So everybody assembles at 10 p.m. or so at the office in Beverly Hills. Dental problem fixed. Wife said Langer could not have been nicer, thanked everybody profusely and slipped her a $100 as we were departing.

My old paper sent me to Greensboro to work on a takeout on caddies, so I ended up caddying both the Monday and the Wednesday pro-ams to get the real feel for it. Got Neal Lancaster on Monday, believe he's now a club pro. Chain smoked the entire round. Was with Langer on Wednesday and he was fantastic. Asked him if he had any good caddie stories after the round and he told me that once in Scotland, he fired a caddie who responded by coming at him with a knife. That was a fun assignment.

OK, Wyndham Clark shoots a 60 at Pebble today, which is not too shabby, and in the immediate post-round interview one of the CBS guys, Baker-Finch I think, asks him if he has advice for the amateurs out there. This was not IMO a very good question at the time, but Clark was game and started talking about the driver. First he said, "always try to hit up on the ball." Good advice. Then he said, "and make sure to hit it in the center of the club." Well, yes Wyndham, that's the problem isn't it? I thought, I don't mean to dump on Clark, he was gracious about a dumb question, but this was an example of how the two billion or so practice shots these guys hit puts them on a plane where communicating with us dubs is like impossible.

I didn't watch after Clark was done (sheesh he could have shot 56 or 57), where was Amanda Renner?
