I caught part of the Pebble Beach coverage today, and between the deluge of commercials Nantz or somebody else was implying they might not play tomorrow due to weather.

Do they reschedule to Monday or just bag the final round in that situation? I suppose it depends on Monday's weather forecast, too.

Golf Channel just had tourney official on to explain PGA rules. Long story short: They can play into Tuesday, but not if they start on Monday and then have to stop. That closes it out.

Starting to rain now near Santa Cruz. The worst of this one is expected overnight.

If they do play, officials announced late Saturday spectators and volunteers won't be allowed on the course.

Neal Lancaster ... a name I hadn't heard or read in a while. Brought not too far from where I spent many of my formative years. Self-deprecating and funny ... glad you got him. Always loved the joke "why do you drive in a parkway and park in a driveway?"

Not surprised Langer was good. In addition to everything else mentioned, when Woods won his last green jacket, a lot of pros were waiting at the clubhouse. All of them were peers and many were the younger sorts who gave credit to Woods for inspiring them to take up the game. The only older golfer I saw of note in that group ... was Bernhard Langer.

About eight years ago a hurricane came close enough to Cape Cod while harmlessly out to sea that there were tropical storm force winds in my town. It hadn't started raining yet, so my son, one of his friends, and myself were stupid/bored enough to go out to the local nine-holer and try to play. The results, while not exactly golf, were hilarious. Against the wind, I hit a 3-wood on a 145 yard par three and came up 25 yards short. With the wind on a par four, my son, much longer than I, hit an eight-iron on a 130 yard uphill pitch. Ball sailed over the green, over the fairway of a hole behind the green, and into the woods bordering said fairway. That's when we gave up. They shouldn't play today of course, but if they did, I'd sure as hell watch.

But it's going to be wet and windy today as well.

If they start Monday and at least half the field finishes before a stoppage, as I understand it they would try to complete the event Tuesday. But Tuesday only comes into play if some golf is completed Monday.

And that was a good column from KVV. Hoping at the commish's next media availability he gets grilled heavily about the fans. Wonder if he'll show his face before TPC.
