Lots of artists have written great songs about getting older, regrets and last chances. Hell, Billy Joel wrote the fantastic “The Night is Still Young” at a different stage in his life but on the same general theme. This song is dreck. The imagery starts off really nicely and then goes nowhere.

Also, it was depressing to hear him do “You May be Right” as the audience in front ignored him and talked with each other.

Tommy is so damn good. As a kid who grew up very working poor, I pretty much identified with everything he said about poverty. The belief you have then that a better life is out of reach is crushing. Being poor is an indignity and a violence to your soul every waking moment of your life. An embarrassment, a resentment, a life you hate.

Forty five years later, when I think about it, my face gets hot and all the old pain is just under the surface of my skin, a scab to be scratched off so I’ll bleed again.

I generally thought this was a well-done awards show, but yeah. Either they mic'ed up the crowd weird, because you could hear chattering constantly during some of the returns from commercial breaks, or they didn't have much control over the people there. Maybe a mix of both? It did seem more star-studded than normal, probably thanks to Taylor, Beyonce, Jay-Z and others actually being there in person.

By the way, I agree with the sentiment I've seen in several places today -- Trevor Noah is one fine awards host. He can do that forever, as far as I'm concerned.

Several years ago, LL COOL J hosted.
They opened with a couple of AC/DC songs.
Everyone in the audience was bee-bopping around and seemed to be having a ball.
Last night, it didn’t look like anyone in the audience was having “fun”. Swift doesn’t count. A kangaroo could be getting eaten on stage and she would be grooving.
    It’s so different now,
Each performance last night sounded the same sans Billy Joel who looked and sounded like he was performing at a funeral…..and I like the sumumabitch.

The kangaroo was going to vote for Trump. That's why it was eaten.
