And this is entirely my point.

Enjoy whoever you want, man. My record collection is filled with people who will never be in the rock hall. That's fine. If you enjoy Foreigner, enjoy Foreigner.

But if you are going to be considered for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, you DO need to be good.

I'll add "Long. Long Way From Home" and "Night Life" to that list. "Women" is a funky little groover as well.

And possibly the kings of Hot/Cold hit songs with "Cold as Ice" and "Hot Blooded". Maybe the Stones challenge with "She's So Cold" and "She Was Hot"....

"Folks, every time you drive this car, it'll feel like THE FIRST TIME!"

And again, this isn't getting us anywhere so agree to disagree, but while the singles are rock radio staples, the first couple Foreigner records were a good mix of classic guitar rock, prog and pop. There was even a cool instrumental track on Double Vision. In the late '90s, I tried convincing my future wife to name our cat "Tramontane." Smart woman, she said no. :D But they had musicianship (the band, not the cats).

You and I agree about quite a bit on the musical threads here, and I agree with this post.

But when the Rock HOF kept Rush out for so many years, it wasn’t because they weren’t good musicians or songwriters.

Popularity is definitely a big part of the equation.

    When's Marillion on the ballot?

I imagine we are on the same page here, but popularity with the right gatekeepers, not the masses. Rush's last 13 records all hit the top 20 (and all but two hit the top 10). Their pre-Soundscan days, when they were hitting the top 10 on the regular with almost no traditional radio airplay, was particularly impressive. But Jann and the rest of the dickweeds didn't think they were cool, so they had to wait. And I say this as a casual Rush fan (though I was lucky enough to see them live once, which was pretty cool).

Not until Angel gets in. (Bonus points for their two-way, upside down logo and having a member named Punky Meadows).

Maybe, just maybe, the notion of a Hall of Fame for an artistic medium is pretty stupid in the first place.

Regarding Kravitz, I didn’t realize to what extent he dominated the Grammys in the late ‘90s/early 2000s. That probably gets him closer to induction than I’d like.

Because he was cool. He looks now like he's still 35. He needs to stop cryofreezing or whatever the healthy shit he's doing lol.

Again, what makes you the arbiter of good? And why do you tend to think that things the majority likes, isn't good? Everything is good to someone. When that thing is good to lots of someones, and stays that way for decades, it's not good? I'll never understand that. Once again (I think I've thrown this in here once or twice), as Eddie Van Halen once said, "It's like, if you're a punk band, and you don't sell any records, well then you're cool."

Foreigner isn’t close to the worst. That spot is reserved for Boston, which is an automatic change the station for me.
