Pick No. 199 should have to be a QB every year. Just to see how many years it takes to find even a worthy backup.

I want to laugh at the Steelers situation, but realized the Pats have Jones and Zappe and the third pick in the draft in which nobody likes the QBs, let alone the third one.

Yeah, but you'll be too blind to see his HoF qualifications unless your regular starter goes down.

I long ago quit being a fan of any team, but I grew up a Bengals fan, and I've been happy for the region they've been relevant the last couple years.

But many posts like these have been shoved in my face* in the last couple days, and I'm beginning to hope the Bengals blow up and win four games next year.

Even if they don't blow up, I think '24 will be the last shot. The Browns aren't going to pay what they will have to pay to keep the band together.

It won't make the players they end up drafting highly any better. I mean - the simple question is will Caleb Williams have a better NFL career than Carson Palmer, who had the most success of any qb out of Troy. I honestly don't know.

Here's food for thought, Aikman said recently on a podcast (Russillo IIRC) that when the dynasty end comes, it comes fast, I think he said "off a cliff" because after the 3rd SB win, they thought it would just continue.

I think most championship or contending teams try to stretch it out a season or two too long -- as long as they still have their star and a couple other top players, they rationalize they're "still close enough to win."

One of the keys in building a consistent contender is you need to get most of your core pieces within a 4-5 year window in age so most are in their primes together, but then as Aikman points out, when they start getting old, they get old together.

And now, there's the increasing pressure to pull the trigger, blow it up and start the rebuild, so as soon as the brass is convinced the window has really closed, it's time to clear the decks.

Did Aikman remember that there was another pretty important factor that contributed to the dissolution of that dynasty even before it ended?
