Did anyone catch Gilmore's tour with Dave Alvin five or six years ago? Great show. My rock idol Jon Langford opened for them.

The writers of "Without You" - originally done by Badfinger - each killed themselves in the midst of disputes over the song's royalties.

I wish. I've seen them both, but not together.

My personal opinion is that Alvin croaks like a frog when he tries to sing, but he sure can play. And of course Gilmore is one of a kind -- well, in a class with Iris DeMent, anyway.

I wonder how Phil is doing these days.

Really wish the sound mix was better on TV, but so, so cool to see The Gaslight Anthem get a prime time spot in the NHL Stadium Series game tonight.

    Those who know, know.

Give it a listen. The entire album kicks ass. Beck would not exist without Serge Gainsbourg.

Goodness, actually I DID know Huey knew it, but then again, I'm a HLN hack.

I believe that clip is from a small club show they did promoting Small Word, which was after Sports and Fore, a departure from what they were doing, and, well, the beginning of the end of their run.

It's an excellent record, and shows how good they were musically. "Old Antone's" is really wonderful. I believe there are quite a few covers in that club show.

Huey was an old soul in 1983, let alone now. I'd love to buy him a beer one day. Seems like the most genuine dude. I've been a fan since I was an impressible kid. But I think his stuff holds up more than most. And that clip is a terrific example.

I know I push the work of Dave Hause often, but the guy doesn't waste a word, even in a song as tight and sparse as "Low." He just writes beautifully, and it's all so real and speaks so loudly to me.

Saw Nick Lowe do the song -(he wrote it) when he opened for HLaN - Paul Carrack on keyboards.

Yeah, Nick Lowe's version is the gold standard, and the video is a classic, too ...
