Mayfield is a better pocket passer than Fields. Pickett and Rudolph are quite possibly better pocket passers than Fields. But there are at least 20 quarterbacks in the NFL whoa re better pocket passers than any of them. But I think that in the absence of a dominating offensive line, which Pittsburgh does not have, the only way to have an effective running game is to have a good running quarterback that the defense has to account for on a play. Fields would probably not improve the passing game in Pittsburgh but he will improve the run game.

The Steelers were 13th in the league in rushing with 118.2 yards per game this season, but that number went up to 134 per game once they finally inserted first-round pick Broderick Jones in at tackle for Week 7. Sure, Fields will help in that area, but so would using that first or second-round pick on a much-needed upgrade at center like Jackson Powers-Johnson or Zack Frazier. If you're going to play a ball-control style, you need a quarterback who can take care of the football and make the key plays to win games late. That isn't Fields.

You know as well as I do that Mayfield played through a shoulder injury most of that fourth season. Wasn't that the main reason his play regressed? When I saw him play that year, it was clear that the injury was severely hampering his play. It was stupid for him to gut it out and for the Browns to let him gut it out.

Mayfield is also surround by much better skill and downfield passing options in Tampa Bay. Throw a lot of footballs to Mike Evans and Chris Godwin and it's likely good things will happen. The offense there really hit into gear once they realized Rachaad White could be a factor in the pass game.

Peter King and Rich Eisen are speculating Jimmy will go to Pittsburgh. Seems more of a 'good fit' type of comment than any info from the parties involved.

How is he a good fit? Of the guys who might sign somewhere without being guaranteed a starting job, Rudolph, Tannehill, Minshew, Brissett, and Taylor all make more sense for the Steelers.

Not so fast on the crucifixion of Kyle Shanahan for taking the ball to start OT. I’d rather analyze it than hot-take it.

Of course. Outside of Joe Poz, nobody writes as much and says as little as PK.
