Peter always wrote long, and given he felt this might be his last one, it's no surprise he did it in spades. It's really two columns, his post-Super Bowl column and his farewell. He wanted to make acknowledgements, and those are always space eaters, let alone when you've known and worked with as many people as he has.

Peter King going long? I'm shocked.

I did get a kick out of his (no doubt beleaguered) editor suggesting an earlier deadline and a much shorter column, and he replied, Nope.

Coincidentally…….jersey number and waist size…..both the same.

Surprised no Dr. Z reference in the final column.

Man, there was a lot of great stuff in that final column but my favorite was this part in his "I think I won't miss" section ...

Trying to write something meaningful between the draft and training camps. I’ve always thought May 1 to July 15 should be a dead time. Ten weeks or so to get away, recharge. And that’s how it should be. But my time at The MMQB for those 10 weeks was filled with stuff, mostly pablum, to fill empty days. The media’s been conditioned to keep throwing logs on the fire, day after day after day when absolutely nothing is happening. I am thrilled to not contribute to that anymore.

Guess it comes down to definition of important. For influential I'd put Simmons' Page 2 stuff above PK.

Happy retirement to Peter, or pseudo retirement depending on what he does next. Obviously MMQB is what he's been known for forever, but if you stumble upon or search out his old print stuff in SI there's a ton of fantastic pieces.

The piece from Madden's bus trip across America really was terrific.

I heard PK is going to start a blog covering the Nashville Kats.

I'm as big of a fan of the NFL as there is out there, but I agree with this wholeheartedly. I don't need daily content in May and June. I don't need practice reports from mini-camps. Let the damn sport breathe a bit.

I hear they play clean as country water and wild as mountain dew.

Hell of a career. He'll be back. Great choice to moderate the belichick/saban podcast.
