Holtmann was a really good fit at Butler and I'm still a little bitter about how his departure to Ohio State went down. But there's no universe where Butler's ever going to be able to compete with a desperate Ohio State, and they were desperate.

I really wanted to see how he would do at Butler with his own recruits. The core of his last team was still made up of guys who committed to Brad Stevens or Brandon Miller. He was beginning to finally push Butler into recruiting like a Big East team and not a strong mid-major, and then things got derailed after his departure.

DePaul probably ought to take a hard look at him though my guess is they would rather have an up-and-comer than someone who was just fired.

I saw somewhere else the suggestion that Ohio State needs to hire Dusty May and that thought is so delicious. Heads would explode across southern and central Indiana.

Part of the reason Kirby Smart got the Georgia job when he did is because South Carolina was about to hire him and UGA officials got nervous they couldn’t get him later. So Mark Richt got broomed out of Athens faster than anyone expected.

I say all of that to say that Mike Woodson doesn’t have a fraction of Richt’s coaching goodwill built up with his bosses or fan base.

If I'm Holtmann, I'm staying far away from DePaul. That's a career killer. I'd rather have an A-10 or AAC job than go to DePaul.

I may live to regret this post, but folks need to pump the brakes on Dusty May. Should be a candidate. Shouldn't be the candidate.

May is legit. He may not be all that he's being pumped up to be, but I've been aware of him since he was a UAB assistant. His teams are generally fundamentally sound and well coached. Is he ready to be dropped into OSU? Probably not, but I still think he'd be ok. I'm fine with "should be a candidate" though.

I know the default setting is supposed to be for an alum to get mad when a coach leaves and goes on to bigger things. But this KSU Fighting Owl is so stinking happy for Amir Abdur-Rahim. Your No. 25 USF Bulls as conference champs for the first time ever. Dude is going places.

I hope for his sake that he doesn’t listen to those saying he’d be a good DePaul candidate. There is no such thing as a good DePaul candidate.
Stay at USF for another year or two and then hit the big time. His track record is impressive.

I'm watching Miami somehow playing within six of UNC. They're absolutely out of control and lacking any semblance of a plan on offense. It's hard to believe they're coached by a guy who should be in the Hall of Fame if he isn't already.

Yeah, DePaul is a career-ender. Only two guys this century have coached elsewhere after leaving DePaul, and one, Dave Leitao, WENT BACK TO DEPAUL after flaming out at Virginia. The other, Pat Kennedy, stunk up the joint at Montana and Towson post-DePaul. That's the type of joint that needs a fearless Division II or JUCO grinder to work miracles. Nothing else is gonna suffice.
