    "Husbum"?

I remember her from the NYT.

(Interestingly, her Wiki page does not note her spouse's passing.)

    Pioneer in hockey coverage.

Her husband was Dennis D’Agostino, longtime Knicks/Mets PR guy.

Loved her work. Not just on hockey, but when they let her loose on other sports.

Wow, what a column. Those first 4 grafs really made my allergies flare up. What a career.

Congrats to Helene on an outstanding career.
I had an embarrassing moment with her and didn't even realize it at the time.
When the Kings reached the Stanley Cup Final in 1993, I was covering for the South Bay Daily Breeze and the Santa Monica Outlook. I was in Montreal as the solo rep from my papers, while the L.A. Times had six writers there.
The day before Game 1 I ran into Steve Springer, another LAT writer, in the hotel lobby. I said, "Lots to cover here, eh?" He said, gloating, "Ha, desk said there is bad space tonight. I wrote one 8-inch sidebar."
I went to my room and pounded out three stories, maybe 70 inches in all. When I was done, I was going out for dinner and beer when I ran into Helene in the lobby. I said, "Hey, Helene, did you have a grueling 8-inch day, too?" I never realized the double entendre. She said, "No, I wrote a 25-inch feature." Fortunately, she didn't get the double entendre either. I told her what Springer had said.
Anyway, we shared a cab to a bar where other writers were and it was a fun night.

Liked the shouout to some of the pioneer female sportswriters. Reinforced my belief that Roger Angell's "Sharing The Beat" should be required reading in j-school.
