I suspect that you didn't bother to actually read the article, just kneejerked. I feel much the same way about Thiel.

I don't know if you read it either. AI is why we eventually had an effective response to Covid. We can like it or hate it, but it isn't going away. There is a crying need to understand it, to put limits and controls in place, but as the article points out, government procurement standards from the 1960's combined with bureaucratic intransigence is anathema to modern software development.

 

Getting US government IT up to year 2005 standards would be a major lift. Worthy goal or not, I'm not holding my breath on this one.

Because if you mention Palantir, Thiel comes to mind virtually automatically, much like Tesla and Musk. There are half a dozen people mentioned that are seen in a much more positive light.

I still trend somewhat optimistic, even with the shitstorm this country is enduring. AI is a powerful tool, and it's not like it's going away anytime soon. We need to find ways to effectively channel it, utilize it, and regulate it, which starts with making an effort to understand it.
