    Maybe. And it's Florida.

But I just watched their road games against the Rangers and Devils, and they look like the best team in the East to me. They contest every puck and are relentless and there is an insane amount of talent. Sam Reinhart, Matt Tkachuk, Cater Verhaeghe, Aleksander Barkov, etc. The beauty of adding Tarasenko is that you aren't relying on him to be the player he used to be. He doesn't have to carry them. Having watched the experiment with him on the Rangers last year (he wasn't the problem for them), I think he'll fit in really well in Florida.

The Barkov assists Monday night were insane. They do look great. But it's hard to ignore the randomness of the playoffs and how it hurts the Presidents Trophy winner. The good news is they're not pulling a Tampa or Boston here...they're merely very good, not historically so.

So are the Rangers going to get Frankie Vatrano, and is he the difference? Supposedly they are in on Wennberg, too. For me, it’s a matter of price. There was talk of Kakko being in play, and that would be insane to me. Not in a trade deadline deal.

They made the Final last year. Why are you betting on them going out in the first round?

The Rangers are as win-now as anyone. Laviolette begins burning out his welcome in year two and you never know when dipshit Dolan is going to go on a bender and start knocking shit over. Nothing they do this week would surprise me.

I'm not betting on anything (not now, anyway). Just saying being the best team over six months usually doesn't matter come playoff time.

I get the win now. I'm on board. Panarin, Mika, Kreider are not going to get younger. But that doesn't mean just making moves for the sake of making a move. They need a top line right winger. Vatrano worked 2 years ago. I am not that keen on the center options to replace Chytil if they have to overpay. I don't see Adam Henrique or Alex Wennberg making that much of a difference in the playoffs.

Gotcha. I thought you were talking about Florida specifically. And I should have said predicting maybe.

Wennberg to the Rangers with Seattle retaining half of his salary. Rangers sending back 2nd rounder and a conditional 4th rounder next year.

Henrique and S. Carrick went from Anaheim to Edmonton.

Carrick is interesting to me. He is 32 and will play more games this season than he has in any other to this point.

He is also, by my count, one of only three former Brampton Battalion captains still playing pro hockey. This fact will be of interest to like two other people on this board.

His brother Trevor is still on the San Diego Gulls, the Ducks' AHL team.
Sam had centered the Ducks' fourth line, was an effective checker and penalty killer. Very good on faceoffs. He would do something good and noticeable, then go a month without doing anything. Whenever he was bumped to the third line, or as a fill-in higher in the lineup, he would do nothing. But good team guy and a captain when he was on the Gulls.
