Kalen DeBoer just popped up as a potential friend on my Facebook feed. Turns out we have a mutual friend from Sioux Falls.

Just got the memo of the proposed rules changes for 2024, pending PROP (Playing Rules Oversight Panel) approval.

    * Coach to player communications through the helmet in FBS.
    * Tablets for in-game video use, restricted to the current game.
    * FBS conferences interested in wearable technologies can submit an experimental proposal.
    * Two-minute timeout in each half. This is not an extra commercial break. TV must hold back at least one media timeout to coincide with the two-minute timeout.
    * More uniform nonsense. If players aren't wearing the uniform correctly, they must leave for one down. (Yeah, right.)
    * Division III will adopt the new timing rules
    * Horse collar tackles no longer allowed within the tackle box.

Some other editorial changes as well.

I get John Elway from time to time because he went to a neighboring high school and I have friends who played with him.

Michigan, Ohio State, Michigan State and Wisconsin will tell FOX to GFT if they try to schedule a Friday night game at any of those venues. This has Northwestern, Rutgers, Maryland, Purdue and Indiana written all over it.

The demand for those auto byes was the height of arrogance. The idea that the BiG and the SEC hold the first round byes before the first game is played throws the idea of "earning it on the field" and "the regular season matters" right out the window. If a team from the Big 12 or the ACC goes undefeated and the B1G and SEC teams have one or two losses, the Fat 2 teams should get the bye?

I never would have thought such a thing was even possible before last season.

Bullshit. The 3-3-2-2-1 +3 format already requires the B12 and the ACC to humble themselves and acknowledge that they are lesser. Those byes were a pure power play, and everyone outside the Fat 2 hates the idea.

    Commenting on two topics:

    * Friday night game helped make Boise State what it was under Petersen. They got a ton of pub for playing any day but Saturday, and winning on national TV.

    * If the "protect the SEC/Big Ten" auto bye rule applied this past year, Alabama, the No. 4 seed, would have received a bye. So glad they called BS on that plan.

The mayor of Birmingham has already said he’s going to actively discourage recruits from signing with Bama, Auburn and UAB if that passes here. Granted you could fit his influence over teen athletes in a can of Grapico, but I understand his frustration.
