Sudeikis was good at it for the Biden of the time -- it obviously doesn't work for now.

They've now had a couple big time multiple #1 singers - Grande, Olivia Rodrigo, Taylor Swift, Jennifer Lopez - that all seem like they could have or should have done double duty, but haven't. I'm not sure if that's because they don't want to, or because of the show doesn't offer it to them.

    Justin Timberlake?

Got to see the Moulin Rouge sketch, and that was great. Reminded me of the sketch Grande (and Bruno Mars) did where whichever music streaming service broke down, and they had to sing the songs instead.

Bugs me when they stunt cast on cold opens, just because they can. Scarlett's great and all - and she's I guess part of the extended SNL "family" - but Sarah Sherman would have gone "bigger." Also wish they did cut aways to GOP leaders watching it with various comments.
    Mitch: Mouth agape, unblinking
Other Senator: Mitch? One of those spells again?
Mitch: No, I just don't know what the hell this thing I'm watching is.
Other Senator: Can we pull the plug? This is horrible. Is she on drugs? Is she OFF drugs?
Marco Rubio: Maybe we can get her a bottle of water.....?
Other Senator: Shut up. You had your chance.
George Santos: "Hello, admiring my star pupil? As the only Member of Congress with an Acting Oscar I felt it was the least I could do."

I think Timberlake has shifted into the "cringy old" category as people continue to reevaluate his behavior in the whole Britney Spears saga. His last four singles dating back to 2020 have charted at 19, 84, 100, didn't chart and 61. (J-Lo isn't really charting now either, but she's still incredibly famous.)

Oh, I think Timberlake is still in the A-list category.

Even if Justin is no longer at the peak musically, he's still one of the upper echelon when it comes to SNL guests/hosts. He could've done a much better job as host than Dakota Johnson if he had done double duty did earlier this season.

I'll preach it until my dying breath that I just want one more "Bring it on down..." sketch.

I can't pretend to know how the masses think of Timberlake--my current pop culture knowledge, such as it is, remains limited to whatever my 11-year-old absorbs--but does anybody really chart anymore? I wish we were in the days of the charts determining how someone was doing but nobody buys physical media and radio's so fucked up and fragmented.

Its determined pretty much by digital sales and streams nowadays. They started counting those in 2013, which radically changed what charted and what didn't. (Basically, rap and country were probably being way undercounted.)

In her sketch, Grande looked so tiny.

    That's a whole lotta people I don't know. A few I do, but ...

Congratulations to Robert Downey Jr., the first SNL cast alum to win an Oscar.
