Haha yes but DePaul is particularly unique even among dead-end jobs.

DePaul needs to be relegated. Call up Dayton.

You'd think there would be no feasible way both DePaul and Loyola could survive as functional D1 programs, but Loyola seems to be doing all right. DePaul is over its head in the BEast.

At some point, it's gotta happen, right? I mean, they can't keep dragging the league down like this. If Cooley & Holtmann can't turn around G-town and DePaul, get out. You'll do fine in the A-10. Or the CAA. Or the Patriot League.

Each conference seems to have its perennial doormat. Fordham has been garbage almost every year its been in the A-10, managing a .500+ winning percentage five times in 29 years, and 0 NCAA berths.

Do college coaches still get a pretty standard five-year deal with a new gig? I could see that moving down to three with NIL. Nobody "builds" a program anymore. You either get the players in a given year - or you don't.

    And coaches would take it.

Holtmann got a six-year deal so God bless him.

Yeah, but mostly one-bid leagues can handle those types of drains on the league. It's another story when eight other schools are all vying for an NCAAT bid and you're just hoping you can beat the other to avoid going winless.

I think the NIL money might allow for a quick rebuild, but it's not a guarantee. It's more akin to free agency in pro leagues. Yeah, some teams will become instant contenders, but way more are just staying at the same level or downgrading. For all the doomsaying about traditional team building, this is how most good teams are still built. Of Houston's top eight in minutes played, only three are transfers.

The other thing I've noticed - Even with NIL, rich teams aren't really able to stockpile their bench. Minutes played is still the most valuable commodity you can offer. If you're offering good NIL and minutes, then yeah, guys will jump. But I think the fear was that like UNC's 12th man was going to be someone getting $100,000 instead of starring on some mid-major, and that doesn't really seem to be happening.

DePaul fans thought they were getting porter and they got Chris Holtmann instead
