I know of at least one case where a good mid-major player took a lot of money to not play a lot of minutes at a power five school...and it wasn't even a traditional power. Probably an outlier, and will grow even moreso over the years as even the big boys begin to wonder why they're throwing so much money at dudes who either barely play or don't produce like they did in the mids.

I'm amazed that Haase lasted that long. He rode one NCAA tournament run to the round of 32 at UAB to eight years at Stanford.

How many coaches will hit that parlay this year at the tournament? One or two upsets in a row (especially this year) and a lot of pub suddenly takes you from Podunk U where you only got in because you won your conference tourney to Big Time U. Didn't realize Monson was out at Long Beach.

I remember watching Haase as a freshman hit a bunch of key shots for Cal of a Duke team that had Grant Hill and Booby Hurley in the 1993 NCAA tournament and end the Blue Devils chance of a three peat. It is hard for me to believe that was 31 years ago..

Thus ends the curious combination of a Cal grad coaching Stanford and vice versa. That said, as the link notes, Stanford will likely be looking for someone with ACC experience.

Hampton University names Ivan Thomas, now an assistant at Georgetown, as its new coach. Hampton fired Buck Joyner a week ago. Thomas is from the area, coached HS hoops in Northern Virginia and Hampton Roads, then went to Providence with Ed Cooley. He followed Cooley to Georgetown. Thomas also has experience with the Boo Williams AAU program, too.

Hell, it's hard for me to believe that UAB dropping Iowa State in Louisville was eight years ago. Time passes so quickly...
