And a fourth-round pick is well worth it, IMO. A veteran instead of a rookie allows the coaching staff to focus more of its efforts on the quarterback. Also, there is no guarantee one of the top WRs will be available at 9, but there will be a top edge rusher available at that point and even a few picks down the board if Poles decides to trade down to get extra picks.

It was never, ever going to take a high draft choice to get Fields.

After flirting with retiring a couple years ago, I wouldn't be surprised if McVay doesn't soon follow Donald out the door. With Stafford in the twilight of his career, the Rams could be in for some lean years.

I do agree McVay would be a candidate for a Dick Vermeil-like*** sabbatical, but he also seems to be the type who'd be miserable if he wasn't miserable. Plus, they were infinitely better than anyone expected last year. I could see him riding it out and trying to build the next good Rams team.

***McVay is 38, or only eight years younger than Vermeil was when he retired for the first time. That's fucking depressing.

Almost feels like calling him an interior guy is selling his impact a little short, not that I disagree with your assessment.

Donald could line up anywhere in the 4-3 or the 3-4 and wreck shop. I think Warren Sapp was the best 3-tech when it came to getting to the backfield. But that was Sapp's position, he was the modern-day three tech. Donald is definitely the best defensive player (any position) of his era and...I don't know -- a top 3, top 5 defensive lineman all time. Amazing, unique, one-of-a-kind talent.

Damn, Pickett must have been told Wilson was the starter regardless of talk of a "QB competition."

Steelers should totally trade for Fields to be the backup.

There was talk the Eagles could trade for him as a backup to Hurts. Another door closes. Colts need a backup. So do the Saints. Maybe the Broncos take a flier if they get shut out at the draft?

I just can't see him returning to the Bears in any capacity. It would be a daily distraction, the last thing a rookie quarterback needs.

Colts signed Flacco, which seemed like a strange spot for him coming off the rebirth. But he probably (and accurately) sees there's a good chance Richardson gets hurt again. For Fields' sake I hope he doesn't end up with Payton. Guy has suffered enough already.

Shit, forgot about Average Joe. That's an odd signing. There is now way Richardson and Flacco can run anything resembling a similar offense.

If Fields goes to New Orleans, he can be the backup quarterback and the backup Taysom Hill.
