WWE will do anything for a mainstream byline, but this more a report by "no shit, Sherlock."

Still, that should be a banger of a match, and probably Carmelo's NXT "retirement" match.

 

Having his back sliced and diced by a pane of glass was fine, but a somewhat pedestrian flip? Whoops.

 

Rock only went 30 minutes tonight with his opening promo. Someone must have told him to keep it short.

 

Asuka looks to be limping pretty badly after that DQ with Bayley. Not sure what they had planned for the women's tag belts, but that may not bode well.

 

An active WWE wrestler in a GCW event? What world are we living in?

 

Good Biography on DDP. Even before getting into his second lease as a miracle worker, there was a lot of insight into his early career and his late entry into active wrestling.

However, they totally blew off his WWE tenure, as underwhelming as it was. Went straight from his WCW peak of winning the world title and into the yoga days.

Enjoyed the insight from Kimberly and Karl Malone.

Next week, they've got a Bio on the British Bulldog. Also, a Rivals special on Hardys vs. E&C, which should be interesting for insight considering all four are now in AEW.

 

Yeah, I noticed that too. Almost as if the E was ashamed of themselves for that run.

 

Or even DDP's unofficial WWF debut when he drove his pink Cadillac to the ring at an early WrestleMania with Honky Tonk Man.

I was surprised when I looked up at the time and they were wrapping up at an hour, when the other ones this season went two hours. Figure they could've stretched out to two hours with his WWE career, and more on all the people he's helped with DDPY. Only a glancing mention of his current wife when they were in the closing credits.

 

A regional indy promotion has been running shows in our town for the past year or so. They've brought in some decent outside talent (Matt Taven and Tim Storm were here last summer) and have a few regulars who do a good job working the crowd. They even had title changes on the last two cards.
Unfortunately, it just wasn't working here. They only had about 150 people for last night's show — I think a lot of them were regulars who follow these guys everywhere — and the promoter emailed me today to let me know he's pulled the plug on another show he had planned for later this year.

I'm kind of bummed out. I've actually covered the last three shows here. Wrote a column previewing it and did huge online photo galleries that did some decent web traffic. I shot the one last July as kind of a goofy "something different" summer space-filler, but started getting familiar with them and looked forward to the return in November and last night's. I took my wife along (the promise of a nice dinner helped) and she was even enjoying it a bit.
It was fun being able to get right up close to the ring and shoot pictures. I'm sad to see it go.

Two more, just because I thought they were funny. My wife was sitting just to the right of the people in the second picture, and a post-match brawl spilled over literally within a foot of her. I keep thinking her internal monologue's expression was similar to the woman in the pink's external expression.
