I guess we can lock in the "time is short" shot for "one shining moment" right now.

I was obviously rooting for VCU, but Duquesne was a cool story, and it's pretty neat to see Dambrot go out this way.

Nice memory jog here. I was at that regional and in the media scrum in Atlanta when Bo dumped Frieder and introduced Fisher.
Bo was asked why Frieder wasn't allowed to coach the team in the tournament before leaving for Arizona State. He said, "A Michigan man will coach Michigan."
Nobody knew Fisher. He was great as he stepped up to the microphone: "Hi, I'm Steve Fisher, head basketball coach at the University of Michigan."

Took until I saw @ChrisLong's follow-up to get this. Quality work here.

Stackhouse, as noted by @dixiehack, seems to be a miserable prick even by coaching standards. He was picking fights with national guys from day one at Vandy. Not the kind of guy you want at a small school that needs to generate feel-good publicity. Plus, how many kajillioniare NBA lifers have the chops and the desire to put up with the unglamorous mid-major life?

Oh, Keith Dambrot. Only reason he was down in the prep ranks for LeBron to carry him back to relevance was he used the N word in a halftime speech (in a motivational context) in the 1990s at Central Michigan, which even then got him shoved out the airlock rather quickly. I believe Jesse Jackson got involved.

I didn't know that until this weekend. Guy timed it all wrong. Today he'd be a cause celebre.

I thought that was reserved for Purdue.

I fully expect him to turn up in the SEC again some day. But Vandy? I thought they had a semblance of decency. Is there nobody else they can hire?

Agreed. He will not be coaching at Detroit or Duquesne or McNeese or VCU when it inevitably opens again in a year or two.
