Which is why Flacco as the Colts backup seems so weird. He couldn't possess a more different skill set than Anthony Richardson.

Your post shows you don't know much about Pickett's time with the Steelers. As a rookie, Pickett got very little time with the starters until he was thrown into a game against the Jets at halftime. Predictably, he threw three interceptions in that game. One was him giving Chase Claypool a chance one-on-one against a tiny cornerback. Trusting Claypool was a big mistake. Another was a Hail Mary with eight seconds left in the game. He threw eight of his 13 career interceptions in his first five games, and they weren't using him like a game manager. He threw 52 passes in the first start of his career, one of them an interception, and 44 in his third start, three of them interceptions. Since then, he started 19 games and threw five interceptions. Once they let Pickett be a game manager, he protected the ball and came through with big drives to help them win games late.

They spent a first-round pick on a quarterback, putting him in behind a weak offensive line with a terrible offensive coordinator who was in over his head. I know this because Matt Canada was the first coordinator the team had fired in-season since the 1960s. Also, Pickett's leading receiver was such a jackass that they traded him this offseason without having a viable replacement. Putting young quarterbacks in poor situations like that is failing them.

Rudolph is shakier ground. I don't think he was ever going to be more than a very good backup, but they drafted him as a potential heir apparent, gave him one brief opportunity in 2019, and then buried him.

It looks like a good situation for him. I'm not so sure how good it is for the Steelers. I only like the move because he came cheap and they brought him in as a backup. The guy can't take care of the ball, which makes him a poor fit for Tomlin's approach.

Tomlin loved the kid coming out of college. They don’t make that trade if they feel he’s a poor fit or that the turnovers can’t be corrected. Given how Khan turned Chase Claypool and a sixth round pick into Joey Porter Jr. and Justin Fields, I’m willing to give Steelers brass the benefit of the doubt.

Tomlin loved Michael Vick, too, even when he was well past his prime. Just sayin'.

Khan has Steelers fans believing. The latest rumor is that they will trade for Justin Jefferson. Gerry Dulac stoked those by suggesting they might acquire a bigger name than Mike Williams at receiver, but Dulac has spent the last two years blowing up his credibility. Remember, he was the one who insisted the Steelers weren't interested in bringing in someone like Wilson or Fields.

The 2023 Trubisky is the worst NFL quarterback I’ve ever seen.

Please do not sully Pickett and Rudolph with a comparison.

Did you miss the entire Nathan Peterman experience?

Comparing a third-year pro like Fields to a post-prison Vick is a wee bit disingenuous.

I wasn't comparing them so much as I was using the example of Vick to call Tomlin's judgement into question.
