I guess this is the running Star Wars thread now, so I'll put this here even though it is set in a different era from The Mandalorian.

    I’m gonna watch. Looks promising.

Ahsoka didn’t really connect with me. Not bad but I had a lot going on at the time and I’m not as familiar with the animated stuff. I should give it a second look.

The biggest problem with Ahsoka was the fact you not only had to have watched Clone Wars (which is really good, but long), you needed to have watched all of Rebels. Mandalorian really thrived because you just need a passing understanding of it all to appreciate it but having a deeper understanding made it better. Ahsoka really needed a deeper understanding.

You did not need to have watched all of either Clone Wars or Rebels (or both) to have gotten into Ahsoka.

Perhaps, but understanding why Thrawn coming back is a big deal and why finding Ezra was a huge thing kind of needs Rebels. Maybe less Clone Wars but much of understanding the stakes depends on Rebels.

I loved it. Thought my wife would too. But the whole time she was wondering who Sabine and Hera were and got lost in the whole thing.

I think you can watch the series either way, but it is tougher to follow and the stakes don't resonate as well if you didn't watch both series.

Note that I said “all of” both series.

Disney did essential episodes playlists for both series, and there are many more of them on the Internet.

That’s fair. And when I originally wrote it I knew Clone Wars is just way too long and not all is needed. My larger point was you needed some kind good working knowledge of the animated series—which you correctly clarified—and especially Rebels. You particularly the last season which you need most of the other seasons to really appreciate what is going on.

I watched the first two episodes of Acolyte. I think it's promising.

I can't decide if the opening scene is an homage to The Matrix since Carrie-Anne Moss is in it, or just a hat tip to fans of a certain age. I think it worked OK, though it might have been a bit too on the nose.

I think it’s both a hat tip and a demonstration of the limits of the Acolyte. They call back to the same moves by Sol later on and Mae makes a point of inviting the Jedi to attack.

I just finished Episode 3. Not to get too deep into it, but I’m curious where they’re going. Again not to get too deep into it, but for the first time, I’m not sure I side with the Jedi. I haven’t liked decisions before, but I’ve always sided with them. I think until this episode.

I haven’t watched the third one yet. But the mistakes and fallibility of the Jedi is interesting. Guessing this foreshadows downfall in the prequels?

My guess is this will somehow end up with the introduction of Darth Plagueis

The Acolyte is (so far) the only live-action TV series to take place in the High Republic era (the current push in the novels), and it slots in at the tail end of that era, 132 years before the Battle of Yavin and about 100 years before The Phantom Menace.
