VCU is arguably as good a job as Vandy. A bit less salary but you can win there and go on to better things. Might even be a better NIL budget.

    True.
Past five VCU coaches have all gotten paid: Oklahoma, Alabama, Texas, LSU, Penn State.

VCU knows how to find coaches (who was their last miss, Mack McCarthy?) and knows how to maximize their inevitable exits. I believe it's written into the contract of every coach that if he leaves, he must return for a game at VCU. That's a lot of coin at a place like that. And as dixie notes, it's a GREAT job. You're the only game in town and you can get anyone you want into the school. There's a ceiling there but they've done as good a job as humanly possible at building on the Final Four run.

They are not the only game in town; Richmond won the A-10 title this year. But they can get anyone they want into school.

I’m not saying Virginia belongs in this thread but I’m not, not saying it

Yeah I don't know what I was thinking there. But VCU has a unique grip on the area and is always good, unlike Richmond, which is either great or has lunatic fans buying billboards calling for Chris Mooney's firing with nothing in between.

Richmond is in Henrico County, so VCU is in theory the only DI game in town. :)

UVA winning March Madness was like the time Harvard won the NCAA hockey tournament — very unlikely. Each gave their coach life-time security.

As someone who lived through the fun and frustration of Sludgeball starring Jaime Dixon, I can only say to Virginia fans, "be careful what you wish for." We loved the 20-win seasons, the top-10 rankings and the multiple Big East championships. We also detested the annual flameouts in the tournament that actually mattered, sans one season when he had DeJuan Blair. Pitt fans will always wonder how things might have changed had Scotty Reynolds not made that basket in 2009 and Pitt reached the Final Four instead of Villanova. When the program started to stagnate with the move to the ACC, the heat really started to turn up on Dixon and people who write big checks decided they could do better and he was forced out. Nearly a decade later, they're still trying to get back to being a 20-win program that gets bounced early from the NCAA.

Much of the campus is within the city limits. The campus also has trees, a lake, birds and grass, something you don't see at VCU.

And yes, VCU has been the better team for much of this century. But fluke Final Four notwithstanding, they can't match our giant-killing history.

Clearly was a legend, at Harvard, in amateur hockey, before he won. Wasn't going anywhere until he wanted.

A serious question. From a population of all the Power Five and Big East schools how many schools currently playing in the NCAA tournament would accept literally anyone?
