If you’re KY you gotta dump Cal and hire barbecue bruce away from auburn before loovul gets him, right?

Offer Dusty May $1 million more than Louisville, then watch as Louisville hires Cal in desperation.

And you replace him with ...

The Tournament is such a freakin' crap shoot. This ain't 1970 anymore. It's not 32 teams and only conference champions get in. As has been proven for many years, teams get hot and can win one-offs. Oakland kid tonight couldn't miss. CSU kids tonight couldn't make.

It's the nature of the tournament - which makes it so incredible. (So don't fucking expand the greatness that it is. And I'll add, fuck you Greg Sankey.)

    AND one SEC tournament game.

When you start having a bunch of those one-offs, though, it's hard to write it off as a fluke. Kentucky is coming up on 10 years since its last Final Four appearance and has one win in the tournament since its last regional final in 2019. It hasn't even won the SEC Tournament since 2018. At some point that becomes a trend line. I'm not saying they should or shouldn't get rid of him, but it might be time to start doing some soul searching.

The playing field hasn't exactly been leveled but it's certainly become more equitable for other program.s The decades of bluebloods dominating is over.

I think UVA would admit anyone. In 2010 I took my son on a campus visit to Virginia. It was explained that the freshman class consisted of 3,440 students. 3.300 were admitted through the normal process and the athletic department got 140 admits that did not go through the normal admissions process. I doubt the system has changed much.

Losing to a 15 and a 14 in the span of three years and no sweet 16 since 2019 is not asking for domination

The fact two 16s have won first-round games and 15s have beaten 2s shows the gap has closed considerably.

That's true. And a bunch of other SEC teams have actually made a concerted effort to get better at basketball the past five years or so.

At the same time, though, this is Kentucky we're talking about. They pour plenty of resources into the program and the expectations are understandably high. It's all about how they do in March.
They don't necessarily need to win a national championship every year, but it's not unreasonable to expect them to go to the Final Four more than once a decade. It's certainly not unreasonable to expect them not to go five years without playing on the second weekend.

Yes, but if you are the University of By God Kentucky, you should not be the one who has the roulette ball land on double zero every time. And they haven’t won the league since 2020 either, which represents a significant drought for them. Calipari has become a coaching AI whose only programming was “stars matter.”
