I'm sure his rustic Ann Arbor lodge will have a huge crackling wood-burning fireplace, a steamy sauna and toasty sunlamps to keep him warm.

The last few years, Michigan winters for the most part have only been 10-15 degrees colder than Florida anyway. 55 degrees, brrr.

Honest question, why don't agents just cut out the middlemen with their spoon-fed scoops to Woj and Shams and break the news themselves?

Don't know if they do it already - but agents, particularly with NIL in play would be followed religiously by hoopsters and hoopheads alike.

It’s Ann Arbor. I know people like to crap on every midwestern locale as a place to live, but Ann Arbor is nice.

Agents don’t make money by getting followers. And while these particular stories don’t really do that much to directly benefit their client, they do help grease the wheels a little for when they need to put out the bat signal their client is looking for the next payday (“Here are the top names for Job X”) or need a friendly outlet to do a little damage control when shit goes sideways.

I would think that the story gets broader coverage and the agent gets wider publicity when the likes of Woj report on it. I also think that it is part of the information currency game. The nugget reporters are the gossip clearinghouse for their sports.

Having reporters break the news is an important tool for legitimizing the information. Agents are not considered trustworthy sources on their own, nor should they be. But if Woj has the news, it's a reasonable assumption he checked the leak out.

It is certainly a sign of the NIL times that the NBA reporters are now breaking college basketball stories. The NBA agents will want to get into the NIL markets and vice versa so the beats will merge.

I've heard stories of wives who pulled the plug on a job offer for the wildest reasons.

There ought to be a Rita Rodriguez statue next to the one for Saban.

One longtime assistant coach from midwestern and southern schools in the sticks was about to take a gig at a semi-urban northeastern school. His wife walked into the drug store nearest campus, didn't like the looks of the people in there and told him they weren't going. Long story short, he never made the NCAAs at either of his HC gigs at southern schools in the sticks and his replacement at semi-urban school did.
