Gannett is sponsoring two players. Mark Hubbard is the other. Such deals have performance incentives and for guys of the Todd and Hubbard level, I was told they’re getting at least 50K per year for the bag naming rights. That’s a couple of reporter salaries for sponsoring two schlubs.

So Malnati maybe gets a bonus from Gannett for winning, damn that's rich.

Does Gannett make the players it sponsors have only 11 clubs in their bags?

From yesterday's round, which I only ended up watching because the basketball was so horrible. Basically the rule here on the nearest point of complete relief means Malnati's stance had to be completely clear of the sprinkler heads. That moves the ball from the thick rough to the fringe, which is a hell of a break, but completely correct. There are five defined areas of the course: Putting green of the hole being played, bunker, teeing ground of the hole being played, penalty areas are the first four. Everything else is defined as general area, and there is no delineation between the rough and the fairway in the general area. As long as the nearest point of complete relief isn't on the green (fringe isn't the green), it's a legal free drop. Good on Malnati for knowing the rule and using it to his advantage.

Every quarter it has to replace two clubs with one less expensive model and keep that at least three months

It's not a golf bag, it's a "sporting goods center."

It's not a golf bag, it's a "GolfSports Transporter of the Future" and has a community engagement coach lurking nearby.

So according to the excerpt from Tiger's first agent's book (Hughes Norton), Tiger was guaranteed $60M for first 5 years before he hit a ball and even if he flamed out. Damn good job by Norton.

If you need any more evidence of Greg Norman's egomania, Norton's book has plenty. Breezy read.

That number was out there when Woods first turned pro and signed with Nike. Hughes isn't breaking any news in that regard.
